I have been quietly working to create a large community of athletes who focus primarily on the art of pitching and the mentality required to be dominant. Over the years I have noticed a stigma around being a pitcher at the lower levels. It’s even been given a name, “PO”, which stands for “Pitcher Only”. At the same time, I see players who have above average throwing arms being overutilized and becoming injured. I take a bit offense when I hear that teams or even coaches allow or create that kind of light for young pitchers. For over 100 years the pitcher has been the starting point of the battery, I don’t see it changing. I am talking about the most important role in a team! And many young athletes stray from it. They want no part of it. For a pitcher, it’s not just about getting on the mound and throwing the ball as hard as you can. It all starts with having the physical ability to throw with proper mechanics throughout the game. You must step on the mound with a plan, attacking hitters aggressively and be able to control and manipulate. Not to mention, holding runners close and fielding the position. The Pitching Squad is a Chicago based community of pitchers ranging from different Schools around the city. The pitchers are provided with quality information and tools to improve and maintain themselves physically and mentally. There is a lack of quality pitching development here in Chicago, and that is what I seek to change. Baseball is evolving to the point where instruction based off theory and belief just won’t cut it. You must be willing to dedicate the time to be properly evaluated, learn your mobility constraints, focus on arm care, nutrition, and finally your craft as a pitcher.
"Don't be afraid of failure. Try to make the best pitch you can and don't worry about the rest. Sometimes it will go your way and sometimes it won't. Don't dwell on things that don't go your way. Just bear down and focus on the next hitter!"
